Day to Day at APC
To make your day begin as smoothly as possible, please read the following suggestions:
In the morning...
Parking
Drop-off and pick-up parking are available in front of Atwater Baptist Church on Tyburn St or in the church parking lot on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday (the lot is used as a playground on Mondays and Tuesdays).
Please monitor No Parking signs in the church parking lot and on the street during street cleaning days.
Sign-In at the Beginning of the Day:
Please bring your child to his or her room and talk to program staff when you sign in. Plan to spend a few minutes discussing anything that might affect your child's day, and say good-bye to your child (don't slip out)!
Because your signature is what gives us permission to care for your child, and because the center can be fined for missing signatures, you will be notified if you fail to sign in. Parents/approved caregivers must return to the center to sign in. We cannot sign in for you, according to state licensing regulations.
Your Child's Personal Belongings
There are times when your child may need an item such as a toy from home to help him or her make the transition from home to childcare. Because children are not permitted to bring their own toys into the center, we will help your child find a transitional toy here at the Center that he or she can use as his "blanky." Allowing your child to have a special toy to make the transition from home to childcare is quite important, so we will work with you and your child to find a toy he or she can bring back and forth.
If your child stays for full or extended day sessions, we encourage you to bring a soft animal and/or blanket for nap-time to leave here at the school. Please remember to label any nap-time items and store them in your child's cubby.
at the end of the day…..
Sign-Out at the End of the Day
At the end of the day, you must sign-out your child.
Remember only you or someone authorized in writing by you may pick up your child. For your child's safety, you may be asked to show a photo ID to staff who are not familiar with you. Anyone you authorize to pick up your child must show a photo ID.
Each day, please remember to talk to program staff about your child's day and to check your child's cubby for items to take home.
Only authorized representatives listed on the child's Identification and Emergency Information sheet are allowed to remove your child from the center (or allowed onsite to visit the children). If you want to add an authorized representative, please speak to Bertha Rodriguez and update your Identification and Emergency Information sheet in your child's file or submit a written request in person. In an emergency situation, you can fax a written request along with a copy of your driver's license to the administrative office. Any faxed requests must be approved by the program supervisor or program manager.
Because your child anxiously anticipates your arrival at the end of the day, please call the program if you are going to be later than usual. The center closes at 6:00 p.m. Late fees may be charged for picking up your child after closing time.

Parent Teacher Conference
Teachers schedule parent conferences at least once each year. You and your child’s teacher can find a convenient time to schedule your meeting; you may schedule additional conferences with your child's teacher at any time. Teachers use one of two assessment tools to help frame the discussion about your child's development: the Early Learning Assessment Profile (ELAP) or the Ages and Stages Questionnaire (ASQ), which is quite user-friendly. These assessments address both the chronological and developmental ages of each child and allow parents and teachers to work together in promoting positive experiences in all levels of development. These assessments allow parents and teachers to work together in promoting positive experiences in all levels of development. At your parent-teacher conference, teachers will show you a portfolio of materials such as samples of your child’s artwork, photographs and anecdotal notes by the teacher. Because you as the parent know the most about your own child's development, you are encouraged to discuss your observations and opinions in the conferences.
Staying in Touch and Staying Involved
By Telephone
Please call us if you have questions, concerns, to report your child's absences, or want to chat with your child's teacher. Bertha Rodriguez, our program director, will direct your call to your child's teacher if she or he is available. If not available, she will take a message and the teacher will return your call as soon as possible. Call 323-666-1377.
E-mail to us
Program administrators can be reached by e-mail at apcenter@pacbell.net or apoffice@pacbell.net and will share your message with appropriate staff. We discourage staff from checking their e-mails during class time, so they will get back to you as soon as possible, given their schedules. There may be times due to their program responsibilities when staff cannot read or respond to e-mail on the day it is sent. We encourage you to telephone for urgent matters.
E-mail to you
If you provided us with your e-mail address on your application agreement, that address and any others listed will be automatically added to our e-mail distribution lists. Please update us on any changes to your e-mail addresses. You can send changes to our administrative office at apoffice@pacbell.net. Please include your name and your child's name and program
(Half-day, extended day, pre-school, early intervention).
Telephone Calls
You can reach staff in the administrative office by telephone at (323) 666-1377 from 7 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. If you leave a message, we will return your call as soon as possible.
Program staff is frequently in the rooms or play yards and unavailable by phone, so it might be several hours before you can speak to the classroom teacher. Urgent messages are delivered by administrative staff.
